Willie Wilson is someone the public considers “a man for the people.” He is a businessman and politician who has been elected to several offices of power to create change. Wilson hopes to become Chicago’s new mayor in November 2022.
He has tried to improve the lives of Black individuals for years and has never had the platform necessary to achieve these differences. However, Wilson has occasionally made minor changes that have benefited society. For example, he has given away food and gas. Recently, he used his platform to identify violent crime within his home city and more.
Based on the idea, he explained that police could not do their jobs because of the restrictions imposed on them. “Our police officers are handcuffed by the administration. We will take the handcuffs off the police, and we will put the handcuffs on the people who are victimizing law-abiding citizens,” the mayoral candidate said.
Wilson has lived in Chicago for a long time and feels sad that people in his city are not safe because of a corrupt society. Chicago’s population decreased due to increased violence and police officers being restricted from catching criminals. He said the new chase policy Chicago Police Department policy is misguided, according to WBBM Newsradio.
Statistics show that violence causes people to move out of Chicago because they no longer feel it is a safe space for them or the generations to come. “If police officers continue to be like they are right now, I’m gonna move out of Chicago myself. They have to be free to do their jobs and protect us all,” stated Wilson.
He was very vocal about the new policy being enforced and how it does not benefit society because it has not reduced violent crimes. Instead, the mayoral candidate wants to put criminals in their place and stop giving them opportunities that they think they can take.
Wilson plans to put his best foot forward to help Chicago become a better place to live when he is elected mayor. He wants people to realize that they must do time if they commit a crime. He desires to teach criminals a lesson and not allow children to live in an environment so toxic that they do not reach their fullest potential.
He suggested stopping this now by allowing officers to do their jobs without unnecessary restrictions. Police are here to serve and protect; although all may not live up to that standard, many do. They need to be able to do their jobs, and they can not do that with their hands tied behind their backs. Without the department, we have no help and no form of legal safety.
