Willie Hurt’s Bio

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I am Willie Hurt, an 18-year-old who was born and raised in Chicago, specifically in the North Lawndale area. I grew up surrounded by sports and I ended up clinging to basketball which became my favorite sport and the sport that I played most of my life until last year.

With the release of basketball, my time became freer, I was able to explore more of my interests and discover more about myself as a person which taught me that I have a love for journalism. I believe journalism allows me to express myself through my words and be able to talk about things that are important to me with being free of judgment.

I was able to connect my love for sports to my passion for journalism which helped me be able to continue my education and move across the country to attend Florida A&M University. I am currently a freshman in college aiming to be a sports journalist or broadcaster who aims to inspire my younger sibling and cousins. I want to show them that you can do whatever you put your mind to, no matter what circumstance you come from. Last but not least, I am an intern at The News School.
