The White House staff is once again changing. Steve Bannon’s last day is Aug. 18, 2017, according to CNN.
He was asked to resign two weeks ago, and today, Press Secretary Sara Huckabee Sanders announced that Chief of Staff General John Kelly and Bannon two mutually agreed that he will leave the White House today.
President Trump told reporters earlier in the week that Bannon was a great guy after he was queried about why he was keeping the White Supremacist as his chief adviser. Trump claimed that was fake news and that press gave his chief strategist as bad rap.
However, reports leaked before the announcement of Bannon’s ousting that the president has been wrestling with firing him in the last couple of weeks. As usual with the Trump administration, the stories coming from the office vary and leaks of disillusionment are revealed on a daily basis.
The chief strategist’s personal politics came under stronger criticism after the events in Charlottesville, Virginia on Aug. 11-12. Bannon supports the White Supremacist agenda as demonstrated by his association with Breitbart.
Trump refused to denounce the Alt-Right and many indirectly suggested that his refusal to do so came from his loyalty to Bannon. However, the panel on the CNN Wolf Blitzer show agrees that this newest departure will not really make much of a difference. The first and most important reason is that the president holds the same ideals as his former chief adviser. Secondly, this departure means little since it is likely that Bannon will still have Trump’s ear.
