Texas hospitals are being flooded with new coronavirus patients as the state of Texas hits a new all-time high, due to early reopening.
The new COVID-19 groundswell was not limited to Texas, however, as by Wednesday, the entire Country had 45,557 new cases reported. States like Arizona and Florida, which prematurely opened saw a new sharp boost in the pandemic by doing so. New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut are quarantining visitors from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Utah, Texas, and seven others before entering.
The Houston Methodist hospital system is overwhelmed with new cases because everything tripled overnight. Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott tightened public safety restrictions at the last minute, but is it too little, too late?
There has been a steady increase in Texas since March; however, the sudden COVID-19 surge due to early reopening has questioned the state’s response capability.
“The last thing we want to do as a state is go backwards and close down businesses,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement. “This temporary pause will help our state corral the spread until we can safely enter the next phase of opening our state for business.”
He also said:
“All Texans do their part to slow the spread of COVID-19 by wearing a mask, washing their hands regularly and socially distancing themselves from others. The more that we all follow these guidelines, the safer our state will be and the more we can open up Texas for business,”
There has been a sudden surge in 31,831 COVID-19 cases and 191 deaths reported in Texas in the last seven days due to early reopening.
