‘Star Trek: Discovery’ the Future Has a History

Even the future has a history. “Star Trek: Discovery” takes place 10 years before Captain Kirk, Spock, and the original “Star Trek.”

It connects well with the traditions of “Star Trek: The Original Series.” Everything from the uniforms to the theme song suggests that retro feeling.

The uniforms that they wore had body armor over their wardrobe. They differed by departments like gold for command, silver for science, and copper for operations and engineering. Although the theme song is similar, it has different sounds.

In “Discovery,” they use older-style props to show how many technological devices have been innovated. The Klingon language, which had a major role in the plot, sounds familiar and can even be read in the subtitles. Klingons look more sinister from those who were in the original “Star Trek.”

Michael Burnham serves as the first officer on the Federation Starship U.S.S. Shenzhou. She was raised among Vulcans and has a comprehensive understanding of the Vulcan nerve pinch. This played a significant role in the alien interaction.

The second World War was basically illustrated in terms of the crew being a representation of America and some villains playing the role of some of the nation’s opponents. The Klingon alien race was a replication of the Nazis from Germany.

On the other hand, the Romulan alien race displayed similar characteristics of the Japanese. They were similar in many ways, such as fighting style and also the issue they were battling over. The prefixed star ship’s name, initialized the U.S.S., which now stands for United Star Ship, abbreviation is the same as a ship in the U.S. history. In the future, there is no United States.

The battle scenes seem really old because it was slowly executed and it was an up-close battle. The crew manually controlled their warship. Like the United Nations, the United Federation of Planets is always working on political principles, such as tolerance, equality, and peace.

Since there is a struggle to uphold virtue, the movie’s protagonist fights to uphold the justice of humanity’s promises. Burnham stands out as a futuristic female hero. Expressing equality through individuality, humanity is the key to success and can save the world one day.
