Shooting Suspect Surrenders to SWAT Team in Sebring

Police said the situation was confined to the bank and the surrounding areas are free from danger.

At approximately 12:36 p.m. the police department was alerted to the SunTrust Bank, according to the sheriff and police report.

A man inside the bank contacted dispatch and reported that he had fired shots. Law enforcement reports are unclear whether any shots were actually fired or if there were any injuries.

Officers and deputies from the SPD and the Highlands County Sheriff Office established their perimeter after arriving on the scene.

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office, special weapons and tactics team, entered into the bank after negotiations to try to get the barricade subject to exit was not successful. Upon entering the bank, they continue to negotiate with the suspect.

Eventually, the man surrendered to the HCSO SWAT team.

Shortly after 1 p.m., U.S 27, was shut down due to the enormous presence of law enforcement.

Family and co-workers of the individuals involved in the situation at the bank were being directed to a nearby Hotel, posted by the agencies and shared on Facebook.
