During an interview with Hill.TV President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani has called for special prosecutor Robert Mueller to be investigated for the destruction of FBI evidence.
The Hill reported that Giuliani accused Mueller of destroying evidence by allowing text messages to be erased from FBI official Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page.
Strozok participated in the Russia Probe and was removed in 2017 after Anti-Trump texts were discovered between him and Page. The two were caught having an affair.
Strozok was fired on Aug 10, 2018, for these actions. Giuliani stated during the interview, ” Mueller should be investigated for destruction of evidence for allowing those text messages from Strzok to be erased, messages that would show the state of mind and tactics of his lead anti-Trump FBI agent at the start of his probe.”
He also stated “They should be investigated, damn it, that should be investigated fully. You want a special counsel, get one for that.”
Justice Department Report
A Department of Justice Report in December 2018 stated that “technical problems” stopped the FBI from recovering thousands of text messages between Strzok and Page between Dec 15, 2016 andMay 17, 2017.
However, more than 19,000 texts were recovered from the early part of the Russia probe before Mueller was named special prosecutor.
The report concluded, “The FBI’s collection tool was not only failing to collect any data on certain phones during particular periods of time, but it also does not appear that it was collecting all text messages even when it was generally functioning to collect text messages.”
Christopher Steele Dossier
Giuliani also stated during the interview that the there should be an investigation of the special counsel for using the Christopher Steele dossier to justify a search warrant on Trump Advisor Carter Page.
The investigators did not inform the court that the dossier was paid for by the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton.
Originally, the dossier was paid for by conservative donor Peter Singer, who owns the Washington Free Beacon as opposition research.
Referring to the Special Counsel, Guiliani stated “Do I think that is improper? Yeah, that borders on — that sounds to me a lot more like a false statement than some of the ones they charged.”
When asked if Muller should be the last special counsel appointed by the Justice Department, Giuliani stated, “I never like to say never, but I must say I have great pause after seeing the abuses in this investigation.”
Written Answers
Trump submitted written answers to prosecutors’ questions in November 2018 which he infamously stated “My lawyers are not working on that. I write answers. My lawyers don’t write answers. I answered the questions very easily. Very easily.”
After the questions were submitted, Guiliani hoped that the investigation would end and remains steadfast that there is no evidence of collusion with Russia.
Giuliani also stated that is prosecutors wanted to interview Trump further his advice would be for him to as “They have everything they need unless they just want to set a perjury trap.”
Muller was appointed to the Special Counsel in May of 2017. To this date, more than 30 people have been criminally charged.
