Pandemic

When the clock struck 12 on January 1st, 2020. I had no clue that in a few months the world would change in ways that I had not imagined. The word Pandemic had not become apart of my everyday vocabulary until March when all of my teachers, friends, family, and the news were repeating the same mantra of how this is what the world has come to. I saw fear bubble in the spirts of people who I once saw as fearless. Coronavirus a.k.a COVID-19 was the first pandemic of the year. Putting the whole world to a standstill. Making the human race go into quarantine and making face mask a new fashion statement.

At first, I was anxious. Quarantine made how the school worked differently and me growing up with a great aunt that’s a nurse made me know the risk that came when pandemics happen. But when she would come home she seemed content even though she had a rising number in patients positive for COVID-19. I came to the realization that there is no reason to fear what I can’t control. As the summer began the year almost seemed to be going ok. Then the next pandemic happened.

2020 was supposed to be the year that the human race would have a common enemy. But after the death of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. That wasn’t the case. As an African American Female, it hurt to watch someone be murdered because of the color of there skin. It makes me scared for my future, my little brother’s future. Black Lives Matters Movements and Riots became normal for a few months. 2020 became the year of angry people fighting for equality. The year where the oppressed gathered together to fight against an unfair system.  The year where my perspective changed about everything.
