“Squid Game” continues to dominate Netflix and the internet. It has brought in a billion dollars in value and helped the company perform well this month.
The South Korean Drama is no doubt a major success. Unlike most of Netflix’s productions, where viewership and revenue numbers are hidden from the public, some numbers about the show’s success were revealed on Monday. CNBC News reports “Squid Game” produces $900 million in “impact value,” an increase from the $30 million that went into the show’s production costs.
Making More History
“Squid Game” surpassed 100 million viewers after a month, becoming the first show on the platform to do so with 142 million households worldwide, reports Forbes. That is almost double of households viewing the number two program, “Bridgerton.”
The show is also credited for boosting subscriber numbers for Netflix. Over 4 million new subscribers joined the streaming service in the past couple of months.
Netflix has been trying to expand into other ventures outside of its comfort zone. It first started releasing original content and is now moving into merchandising. The company is set to release clothing, toys, and other merchandise depicted in its original programming through its partnership with Walmart. Among some of the possible merchandise being sold are the green and pink jumpsuits.
Netflix has not officially renewed “Squid Game” for a second season. With all the success, however, it most likely will. The show is also rumored to be getting a video game adaption, and several apps of the same name are available on Google Play.
