More Gun Violence in Chicago Leaves 2 Dead and 6 Wounded

There was more gun violence in Chicago on Dec. 18-19, 2017. Two were killed and 6 others wounded.

Demetrius Barber of the 14900 block of South Hoyne Avenue was shot at 9:15 a.m. CT, while on the 1600 block of South St. Louis Avenue. The 26-year-old man was inside a parked Chevrolet when a white car pulled up beside him and fired multiple shots. Police said he was struck on the right side of his body.

Barber was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead at 9:42 a.m. The white vehicle fled south on St. Louis Avenue and west on Ogden Avenue.

A mile away, at 2:35 p.m., 19-year-old Rakmaan Randle from the 4300 block of West Adams Street was found in a dark-colored vehicle on the 1300 block of South Spaulding Avenue. He had multiple gunshot wounds on the left side of his body. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:54 p.m.

At 5 p.m. in the Austin neighborhood, a 19-year-old man was shot in the foot. According to police officers, the man was walking in the 4900 block of West Hubbard Street and a light-colored Nissan SUV traveling west pulled up beside him while someone inside the vehicle fired. The victim was taken to West Suburban Medical Center. He is stable.

A 55-year-old man was critically wounded at 5:30 p.m. outside a cell phone store in the Near West Side neighborhood. The man was naked and causing a disturbance. A customer, who had a concealed weapons permit, shot the man in the leg. Under police custody, the man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

At 6:30 p.m. two suspects approached an off-duty police officer on both sides of his vehicle and announced it was a robbery. He was parked in the 3600 block of South Prairie Avenue. One of the attempted carjackers was shot by Chicago Police Sergeant Cindy Guerra. She fired one shot and struck the juvenile in the abdomen.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition. The other suspect ran and is still at large.

At 10:25 p.m. in the South Side Park Manor neighborhood, a 28-year-old man was shot three times. According to police, he was at a gas station in the 6900 block of South Indiana Avenue. A vehicle pulled up behind him and fired gun shots. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital. His condition was stabilized.

A 22-year-old man was brought into Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to the knee at 10:50 p.m. He told police he was shot on the South Side in the Englewood neighborhood while at a gas station on the 200 block of West 63rd Street. He had an argument with the unknown gunman who shot him in the knee.

At 5:10 a.m. on Tuesday, a 56-year-old man was in an alley on the 7200 block of South Sangamon Street, in the Englewood neighborhood. The man was approached by a person wearing dark clothing and shooting. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center for a gunshot wound to the hand. The man is stable.
