Mickey Mouse’s creator, Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois. To celebrate cartoon’s birthday, the Windy City has the opportunity to preview “Mickey: The True Original Exhibition!” The opening day is Sept. 29, 2018, with the last day to visit on October 25.

Visitors are invited to celebrate Mickey’s influence on both art and pop cultures. They will either be re-living or see the mouse’s history for the first time when they wander through the exhibition. In the 16,000 square-foot enclosure they will see “both historic and contemporary work from renowned artists,” according to ShowClix.

One of the art installations is the super-sized Mickey Mouse tee-shirt by artist Amanda Ross-Ho. She is a Los Angeles and will be in Chicago to present an art-talk on September 29 from 5-6:00 p.m. CT. Directly afterward, there is a reception to honor the installation in the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel lobby from 6-8:00 p.m. CT.

The official opening is in New York City on November 8. The final day of the exhibition is February 10, 2019. Ken Potrock, President of Consumer Products Commercialization, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products, boasts of the upcoming event. He hopes visitors will enjoy the:

Larger-than-life multimedia art installations, photo-worthy experiences, and even a few surprises. We’ve partnered with the best muralists, sculptors, artists, and designers to create original works that convey Mickey’s optimism and imagination.

ABC offers another celebration of Mickey Mouse’s birthday. The 2-hour special, “Mickey’s 90th Spectacular,” will air on Sunday, November 4 at 8:00 p.m. PT. The Oh My Disney website reports the program features the:

Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, [which] will include musical performances, moving tributes, and never-before-seen short films—all featuring the iconic star.

Mickey Mouse From 1928 On…

November 18th, 1928 is considered as the official birthday of Mickey Mouse since that was the date he premiered as Steamboat Willie. His debut was made in a short black and white cartoon.

Mickey MouseMany young people would be surprised to learn the Disney created Mortimer Mouse alone. Ubbe Eert “Ub” Iwerks co-created character. The moniker, Mortimer, was changed to Mickey after Lily Disney told her husband he should rename the little mouse.

Over the years his appearance changed, he grew more defined. With the creative changes in filming, and technology the mouse also evolved. Except, his iconic red pants with white buttons, white gloves, and big engaging grin-like smile remain.

Many people hold mock birthday parties for Mickey Mouse at their homes. Others visit one of the 11 Disney Parks themed parks worldwide to wish him a happy birthday in person.

ABC will premiere their Mickey Mouse Short, “Happy Birthday,” on November 18, 2018, at 9 a.m. PT, in honor of the undeniably most beloved animated character.
