Kim Kardashian, a social media star, and Kanye West, a world-renowned rapper and hip hop musician, have been one of the most popular celebrity couples ever since they started dating back in 2011. However, their relationship has been complicated and messy recently.

In 2013, on Kim’s 33rd birthday, West proposed in a grand way by renting out the entire San Francisco Giant’s Stadium and popped the question on the jumbotron along with a beautiful orchestra playing.

The ring was also no small effort, being an extravagant $8 million diamond ring. They were later married in 2014 and while together, Kardashian and West had four children — North, 9, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 3.

Though the start of their relationship may have seemed ideal, Kardashian was struggling with handling the marriage behind closed doors. On February 19, 2021, Kardashian officially filed for divorce from West after six years of marriage. However, there had been rumors of the two separating and speculating online since the start of 2021.

Kardashian has stated on her show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” about how she felt while they were together and what led to the end of their relationship. Kardashian said that she felt as if she were stuck, especially for the children’s sake, all while West was out and about in other states for his career and she thought she was a failure because she couldn’t follow.

However, Kardashian stated in a Vogue article that she wanted to do the best thing for herself and make herself happy “And even if that created changes and caused my divorce, I think it’s important to be honest with yourself about what really makes you happy. I’ve chosen myself. I think it’s okay to choose you.” Despite the downfall of their romantic relationship, Kim has given so much praise to West for his fathering of their four children.

The divorce is still currently ongoing and the topic surfacing recently is the custody of their children. Kardashian requested a bifurcated divorce which split the divorce proceedings into two parts. The first part has settled her legal marriage status, removing West from her name and allowing her to be legally single since March. However they have not been given final court orders and the second part, addressing the custody of the children and their assets, is now happening.

Kardashian was finally granted a trial date in December to finalize their divorce. It will be a two-day trial starting on December 14. This divorce has dragged on for a long time mainly due to West being uncompliant to the divorce.

Although there are no formal orders in court pertaining to the custody of Kardashian and West’s children, West has made some statements about raising their children. On the “Alo Mind” Podcast, which West was on, he stated that he still gives advice to Kardashian that will go to the children since Kardashian is raising the children about 80% of the time.

Kardashian had serious career goals since her marriage to West and they became more unattainable due to the relationship. Kardashian is studying in California to become a lawyer, however, is not attending law school. She passed the baby bar exam back in December 2021 after three other failed attempts and plans on continuing her law journey.

Kardashian is very passionate about her law school journey and was so excited to continue in law school. After becoming a lawyer, she plans on focusing on criminal justice reform, specifically wrongful convictions, and supporting people who need help the most.

Kardashian has even met with the prior president, Donald Trump, to speak in support of three women whose jail sentences he had just commuted.

One day she would hope to start a very successful law firm as Kardashian has stated on her show, “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.” There have been tons of criticism from fans and haters alike about her plan to become a lawyer but the hate has not impacted Kardashian’s determination to achieve her dream.

Last year Kardashian responded to the criticism at the Television Critics Association saying that she truly wants to make a difference and isn’t just doing this for the publicity. Kardashian wants to fix a broken system, especially for her children and those who are like her children, since they could face a situation like what Kim wants to help with.

Though Kardashian’s time with West is coming to an end due to their divorce, she still has dreams and aspirations for the future.
