Jim Carrey’s Painting of Sarah Huckabee Sanders

Recently, Jim Carrey earned more names for himself beyond comedic actor after posting the painting he drew of White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

He shared the picture on Twitter Saturday, March 17, 2018, with the caption stating “This is the portrait of a so-called Christian whose only purpose in life is to lie for the wicked. Monstrous!” Marleah Leslie, one of Carrey’s representatives, confirmed it was his artwork but did not say if the painting was about Sarah Huckabee Sanders.

Some Twitter users did not like the actor’s post. One user did not like the way Carrey used the word “Christian” in his caption and bad mouthed him, indicating no one is exempt from sin. Another shared a meme of someone lifting the lid of a trash can. The photo’s text was a complaint about celebrities posting opinions. Yet, another user shared a photo of the “Ace Venture” actor accused Carrey of being a has been who has not released anything decent for 15 years.

No one was more insulted by the picture than Sarah’s own father, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. He was not pleased seeing the supposed picture of his daughter and slammed Carrey for the post. He posted this tweet: “Pathetic Bully, sexist, hater, bigot & ‘Christaphobe’ @jimcarrey attacks @PressSec for her faith; what would be hypocritical Hollywood reaction if he called someone a ‘so-called Muslim’ or ‘so-called Jew?’ #classless Carrey.”

Huckabee did not immediately respond to requests for comments after making his post. Even others tweeted about how Carrey’s painting made them feel about the painting and surprisingly not all were bad.

Micheal Gatza tweets. “The Mask” star has been taking a break from films to devote more time to painting and he told a magazine last year that creating political art isn’t a new concept for him. Carrey said in the short film “I Need Color” that he started painting as a way to heal after his separation with actress Jenny McCarthy, but his artistry did not stop or even begin with Huckabee Sanders.

He often uses his art to skewer the president and his allies. His past sarcastic work includes Senators Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly.”

For the past 6 years, Carrey has dedicated himself to his art, so much so most people might think he was opening a museum. He shared his hard work during the weekend of September 17, 2017, in “Sunshower,” a solo exhibition in Las Vegas. “There is not a day that goes by that I am not covered in paint or anything from doing sculptures,” he said in a recent interview. He contends his work varies between art, performance, or simply speaking to someone.

The painting has become more than just what he makes, but rather more of something that just happens to him. In his typical fashion of existence/nonexistence, he believes the work is not him and says, “there’s little me involved.”

With the exception of “Nothing to See Here,” a small show in Palm Springs he did in 2011, Carrey has kept his art project relatively quiet. It was October 2017 when Signature released a six-minute documentary showing the actor working in his studio. He released the film, in part, to reveal to his fans what he had been up to for the past years, with very relatively few acting projects on his resume.
