A young girl was hit by a foul ball at Yankee Stadium during a game on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, causing MLB teams to announce plans about increase netting at their stadiums.

On Sept. 21, Cincinnati Reds became the first team to make a public statement on the netting issue:

The Reds’ ongoing commitment to providing the best ballpark experience includes maintaining the safety and security of out fans.

This is a long-standing issue everyone has been concerned about for quite some time. The foul balls are common in the sport and nobody can predict its path. The only thing that can be expected is that they are going to be fast, which gives fans less time to react. That is why they are so dangerous.

Some of the fans might complain about the changes at the expense of their enjoyment of the game, as it will be slightly difficult to watch through the netting. However, this is a problem that has been discussed several times. The MLB reached the conclusion that it is good for baseball to keep evolving by providing a more secure environment for its fans.
