Haunted House Held at Douglas Park

Haunted house

On Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, a haunted house was held in the Douglas Park boathouse.

The haunted house was scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m and end at 7:30, however, things did not go according to plan. The event did not start until close to 6 p.m. That is because the set up was not complete until late in the evening.

The woman who organized the event, Ms. Elaine, had a difficult time setting up all the exhibits necessary in a timely manner. Once things were in their proper place, Ms. Elaine began to allow people to enter the haunted house.

Dressed up in Halloween costumes, most attendees were between the ages of 5-14.

Given that the event was held in the basement of the building, it did not take long for people to get through the haunted house. However, in the short amount of time it took for the guests to go through, an abundance of screams were heard from the inside.

Perhaps, because most of the guests were youth, they may have found the house scarier than the adults that attended the event. In fact, some of the chatter heard from older guest seemed to convey the idea that “you get what you pay for”, as they felt that the haunted house was not scary. Some even went the extra mile to say that “it wasn’t worth coming,” but they were glad that others enjoyed themselves.

This was not the first event held at the park’s boathouse. In fact, not only do the Douglas Park administrators who work there plan free events for holidays, they also allow people to rent out the ballroom in the building to host events such as birthday parties and baby showers.

Although there was not a big turnout of people, Douglas Park administrators said they will continue holding the haunted house events in hopes that more people will come and be able to enjoy themselves.
