Fox Corporation acquired TMZ celebrity gossip brand from WarnerMedia on Monday, September 13, 2021, for less than $50 million. The deal will increase the multiplatform piece to the news agency’s flourishing portfolio of brands. TMZ content with a substantial online following and a TV show running on local stations for 14 years will help promote Fox shows on Tubi. Furthermore, there is an opportunity to create more programming around TMZ names, such as documentaries for the network.
Harvey Levin, TMZ co-founder, and managing editor, will continue as frontman for the TV shows. He will report to Rob Wade on day-to-day matters. TMZ will be added to the portfolio of Fox Entertainment chief Charlie Collier. Fox First Run, which is in the syndication arm, will take over the sales and distribution of the syndicated programs from Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution. As part of the deal, someone familiar with the term said Levin signed a multi-year deal.
Now that Fox has acquired TMZ, the corporation aims to step up the momentum of its digital news. It will subsequently add its strategies of focusing on live or same-day viewing audiences to stream for movies, dramas, or sitcoms. In addition, it will operate all of TMZ’s channels, including TMZ and TMZ LIVE, which is already aired on 18 network affiliates owned by Fox Television Stations.
TMZ is a partnership between Telepictures and AOL. It is a tabloid journalism online newspaper well-known for breaking celebrity-related stories that are fun, shocking, and addictive. TMZ changed how the public gets its news and altered the entertainment news landscape, renowned for breaking sensational, fun, and addictive celebrity-related stories.
