Standing over six-feet tall and weighing more than 200-pounds, NBA All-Star athlete Dwayne Wade is known as a champion, father, and a businessman. Born Jan. 17, 1982 in Chicago, Illinois, he attended Marquette University and was drafted into the NBA as the first round and fifth pick for Miami. He dedicated 15 years of his life to perfecting his skills and growing both personally and professionally.

He is known as a champion because he brought home the Gold medal “representing the USA in the 2008 Olympics set in Beijing,” according to his webpage. Moreover, he made history while attending Marquette University with his skills on the court where “he averaged 19.7 points per game, had 150 steals and 79 blocked shots.”

This champion took his work ethic and passion for the game to the league. In 2006, he “led his team to the city’s first ever NBA Championship.” Additionally, he won his second and third NBA championships with the Miami Heat team.

His charm and charisma have allowed him to expand beyond sports and entertainment to become a trendsetting businessman. He is well known for his Gatorade commercials as well as his “signature WADE shoe for his Way of Wade Li-Ning brand.” In 2004, the Wade’s World Foundation was launched with the intent of leaving the world a better place. 2015 is highlighted as his 12th year of service to the community through his foundation.

In 2013, he received the Community Assist Award as recognition for his philanthropy. With his passion for fashion, he has also begun hosting A Night On The RunWade in Miami every year. This event is a silent charity auction and fashion show with a taste of Chicago cuisine.

With fatherhood being at the forefront of his work ethic, he was “appointed to President Obama’s fatherhood task force in 2011 to support his Fatherhood & mentoring Initaitve.” This initiative encourages fathers to become more active parents. His passion overflowed into his achievement of becoming a New York Bestselling Author releasing his book titled “A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger than Basketball.”

He and his wife, Gabrielle Union, married in 2014. With the birth of their fourth child this year he set a new tone for his fatherhood since he now has a daughter. She born through a surrogate and has made a joyous addition to their family.

USA Today mentions Gabrielle Union-Wade divulged the medical condition that has prevented her from carrying a child in the past. She has adenomyosis, a type of endometriosis. She is clearly excited about their new “miracle baby.”

The dedicated champion and businessman recently demonstrated how seriously he takes fatherhood. He missed the game against the San Antonio Spurs to be present for the birth of his daughter.

His career with the Miami Heat is coming to an end as he enters his last season. In an article published by ESPN, he describes choosing to retire as “the hardest decision of his life.”

“This is it. I’ve given this game everything that I have, and I’m happy about that.” He continues to shows his passion and dedication to the game even in his last interviews. He gives positive words for his fans to follow when the ESPN interview was ending. “Let’s have some joy through this lasts season. Let’s push this young team over the hump and let’s write our own story to the end of this career, together.”
