CTA Red Line trains at 900 S. Addison were inoperable early this morning after employees called 911. A young man died on the train at the Lake View station Monday, April 26, 2021, and the trains were at a standstill for several hours.

According to CPD mediator Sally Brown, the 25 to 30-year-old was found unresponsive on the train at approximately 4:55 am.

The Chicago Fire Department was called to the Red Line on Addison with reports that the man was breathing but not alert. However, by the time CFD arrived at the scene, the subject had transpired, according to spokesman Larry Langford.

Chicago Transit Authority’s post on social media said there was a “sick customer” on the southbound Red Line train. Nearly an hour later, the Addison station was still closed to commuters.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Cook County medical examiner has not confirmed his identity. The incidence is currently under investigation, and more details will be disclosed as they become available.
