Chicago could be receiving federal agents as soon as this week to control protests and gun violence. This city has always had plenty of violence but Mayor Lightfoot is working on a solution that is slowly making a difference. It seems that President Trump disagrees with her methods and could cause controversy.

On Monday, July 20, 2020, the mayor expressed her concerns because of the Portland situation. Lightfoot thinks military involvement is “not needed” to take people off the streets. This past weekend did not help in this case because 70 people were shot — of those 10 were fatal.

The mayor says the president should help in removing illegal guns off the streets, which are transported from Southern states. Oregon’s attorney general says the federal agents were using unmarked vehicles removing people out the public without a proper arrest.

Trump is using cities like Chicago, New York, and Portland — with “violent” protesters — to help his re-election case over Joe Biden claiming that he is too soft to do what has to be done in these type cities to make them safer.

The Chicago Police Department is asking for federal assistance for controlling violence.  However, Chicago’s mayor and the Illinois governor have refrained from doing this up to this point.
