Sunday night, Oct. 22, 2017, the Chicago bears faced off against the Carolina Panthers and won their second game, 17-3.

The Chicago Bears have been considered one of the mid-to-low tier teams in the NFL in recent years. Many seasons of hopefulness from fans, sometimes over hyped, have been unsuccessful.

However, this year seems like it could be a turning point for the Bears. Since the days of Jay Cutler as the quarterback for Chicago, the team has not made much progress, in terms of trying to win a championship. Trading up one spot for the second pick of the 2017 draft, Chicago drafted Mitch Trubisky.

Trubisky has the potential to become a hero or city-wide household name for Chicago, which has not been the case seen since Derrick Rose’s early years with the Bulls. Not only has Trubisky played well for the last two games, so has the rest of the team.

Rookie safety, Eddie Jackson, portrayed the same athleticism and skills he showed in Alabama. Jackson made NFL history as the first NFL player to score two defensive touchdowns of at least 75 yards. Oct. 22, 2017, was also the anniversary of Jackson breaking his leg during his season with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Running back, Tarik Cohen, caught a pass from Trubisky for a 70 yard gain. Chicago used him as the Z-Receiver for that specific play. He could eventually be used more as wide receiver in the near future.

The Bears are trying their luck with their new running back/wide receiver weapon. Cohen has proven to be a dependable running back for the Chicago Bears. He received the nickname, “Human Joystick” during his season at North Carolina A & T, due to his ability to run, move, and contort his body in different ways to prevent defenders from tackling him.

The Bears’ defense has become more noticeable as the season goes on. Many sports reporters around the league have noted that Chicago is attempting to reclaim their once feared reputation, as “Monsters of the Midway.”

The high notoriety was originally given to the Bears during the 1980s. That level of defense from the Chicago Bears has not been seen since Lovie Smith was the head coach, whose main focus was maintaining a strong defense.

The Chicago Bears face off against the New Orleans Saints, on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. ET.
