Chelsea

The Premier League (PL) champions, Chelsea F.C., suffered a huge blow to their confidence on Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017, due to their latest defeat against Arsenal F.C. in the Community Shield game. They are beginning to look like a shadow of the team that grabbed 14 straight wins last season.

Antonio Conte’s team was simply the best in England from start-to-finish last season. He was one of their secrets to achieving that was the transfer market. Chelsea signed N’Golo Kanté, who was the most prized asset at the time in the midfield. Many labeled them as potential winners of the PL after finishing 10th place the previous season with no European participation.

Much to the rage of the fans, Chelsea’s choices during this year’s summer transfer window has been disastrous. Choosing to sign on Alvaro Morata for around $833.66 million as their marquee signing. They had already lost their top goalscorer Diego Costa and rock solid midfielder Nemanja Matic without signing or having proven backup for them in place.

If one person compares those two summer transfer windows, it is almost certain that Conte’s men will not repeat the same success as last season when Chelsea was the team to beat snapping up 30 wins in the process, although the window is still open.

If Chelsea were to repeat the success of last season, they have to move fast in this transfer window. Otherwise, they will surely fell short of requirements to meet those expectations.

The Solution

There seems to be room for improvement in every department in Chelsea’s squad. At the moment, it looks like they need firepower. Gareth Bale is the man who to fix this issue. Moreover, it is reported that Real Madrid would be willing to sell the Welsh’s contract for around $100 million. They want this transfer so they have enough funds to sign the most sought-after footballer in the world at the moment; Kylian Mbappé.

The PL winners should splash the cash for Bale. Then they will be considered real contenders. Not only that, with the sale of Neymar, Barcelona will look for an immediate replacement. Chelsea’s Eden Hazard be the perfect one to fill the void. The London team should also do everything they can to keep Hazard among their ranks.

There is still a lot that can happen during the time left in the summer transfer window. Every team will have to speed things up if they want to keep their standards. Chelsea is the team who has the highest, so they need to aim big.

Nevertheless, in spite of the recent display of the PL 16-17 winners, not everything is lost. Conte is a fantastic manager who can lift any team in the world and rivals should not ignore that whatsoever.
