Chef Carl Ruiz Dies at 44

Carl Ruiz, Food Network star and celebrity chef had died, according to his closest friends. He reportedly passed away the night of Sept. 21, 2019, from a possible heart attack, says his friend and social media personality, Matt Farah. He also reported that Ruiz died peacefully in his sleep.

Guy Fieri tweeted: ‘I’m heart broken that my friend chef Carl Ruiz is gone. I have no words to describe what a great friend he was to me and my family. His ability to make me laugh and smile under any circumstances was only outshined by his talent as a chef Over the years, I’ve met a lot of great people but a friend like Carl is one in a hundred million. Carl ‘The Cuban’ Ruiz will forever live on in my heart and in those of all who loved him.”

The Cuban chef teamed up with Fieri a few times over the years, having made appearances on three of his shows; “Guy’s Grocery Games,” “Guy’s Ranch Kitchen,” and “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.”

He was also close to of the Food Network fixtures, including different Iron Chefs who competed on the popular program. Regulars on the network such as Jet Tila and Ben Ford sent their condolences online.

Ruiz was thought of as an expert in Spanish cuisine. He opened his restaurant, La Cubana in New York City in June. According to the website for the restaurant, he has helped open restaurants over the past 25 years in the food game. He has made several television appearances as well. Ruiz was 44 years old.
