An arrest was made on evidence that a woman brutally beat and assaulted a 92-year old man, Rodolfo Rodriguez, with a brick. The attack was captured on video in South California, on July 4, by an eyewitness who was able to describe the entire ordeal.

The eyewitness, not wanting to be identified to the public, told authorities that the elderly man was originally walking down the street without disturbing anyone when he passed by a woman and her daughter.

Accidentally bumping into the little girl, Rodriguez attempted to politely go around the two when the woman pushed the man to the ground and began to assault him. She began beating the man with her fists and then with a brick.

The witness recounted that after so many hits with a brick the woman went up to a group of men nearby and lied, telling them that Rodriguez had instead tried to snatch her little girl when in fact her daughter was standing by her side untouched.

The three men then also proceded to throw various kicks and blow on the downed man, now heavily bruised and bleeding.

Fortunately, the witness took a picture of the woman and asked her why. When the witness was interviewed, she explained the reason the mother gave for assaulting the man was she was defending her daughter because “he touched her.”

The encounter between the two women ended with the witness telling the mother that she saw and heard everything and the attacker throwing the same brick she beat the man with at the eyewitnesses car in an effort to stop her recording.

Since the victim did not speak English he was clueless as to why he was being attacked so viciously. He did not understand his attacker when told him to return to his country and when asked why he was in the United States.

It was later confirmed that the 92-year-old man, Rodriguez, normally walked on that block daily and was recognized by all of the residents.

His children were disturbed as to why someone would attack someone like their father. Rodriguez’ family was somewhat relieved when the woman was arrested.

She was identified as 30-year-old Laquisha Jones by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. She is a resident of Los Angeles.

Jones was charged and arrested on charges for the suspicion of assault with deadly weapon on July 11, 2018. She was offered bail in the amount of $200,000.

The district attorney’s office also charged Jones with elder abuse, the affliction of injury, and attempted murder. On July 12, 2018, the woman pled not guilty.  At the preliminary hearing, prosecutors asked the judge to set her bail as $1.125 million.

If Jones is convicted of these crimes she could face up to 29 years in prison. Since his assault, Rodriguez has slowly recovered.
