By 2022, CBS All Access intends to have 8 million subscriptions sold to Trekkies of all ages with Star Trek programming 7/24.

The first episode of “Star Trek: Discovery” aired on television on Sept. 24, 2017, and viewed by fans eager for a new Trek series. However, there was a catch. To watch further episodes viewers must subscribe to CBS’ streaming service.

In June 2018, USAToday suggested there were better options than subscribing to the classics library at CBS All Access. At that point, the streaming service only offered three original series, “Star Trek: Discovery, Christine Baranski in “Good Fight,” and “Strange Angel.”

star trekTwo months later, Trek News reports the next great era of the Star Trek franchise may be upon the horizon. In the wake of Discovery’s first season, programmers announced CBS All Access reached an agreement with Sir Patrick Stewart to reprise his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

The storyline for Stewart’s character will take place two decades after “Star Trek: Nemesis,’ which is the final movie in The Next Generation series.

Another project mentioned by the streaming network’s President Marc DeBevoise and the Executive Vice President of Original Content Julie McNamara include “Star Trek: Short Treks.” McNamara added, the company is considering creating limited series for some the Trek shows and for others ongoing series.

While fans eagerly await Discovery’s Season 2, which returns in 2019, Trekkies will be able to watch the Short Treks beforehand.

CBS TV Studios President David Stapf stated his “goal is that there should be a Star Trek something on all the time on All Access.” The company plans to increase its subscriber base from 2.5 million to 8 million by 2022. If Stapf has anything to do with it, 24/7 Trek-related programming will have Trekkies subscribing straight away.
