The Sophia Airport in Bulgaria was evacuated and closed, on Jan. 10, 2018, due to a bomb threat.

The evacuation was ordered by the Interior Ministry after receiving a “malicious phone call,” at 1:20 p.m. local time, according to Bgnes, a Bulgarian new agency. Police immediately responded to the threat.

Canine units were deployed to the airport and the area was sealed off. No vehicles were allowed to approach the terminals, according to Segagb.

The bomb threat was a hoax. Normal activity was allowed to resume at the Sophia Airport at 2:20 p.m. and evacuated passengers were permitted to return to the terminals.

Hours before the bomb threat was called into the Sophia Airport, the Bulgarian European Commission Minister Lilyana Pavlova was in the airport attending a press event about electric vehicles.

There is no word if the caller of the bomb threat has been identified or arrested at this time, nor has a motive been determined.
