It seems like yesterday, but Carrie Fischer of “Star Wars” fame died 2 years ago today. Fischer died suddenly at age 60 from a heart attack. She was on a flight from London to Los Angeles in 2016, touring to promote her eighth book, titled “The Princess Diarist,” which was an autobiography.

After being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital, she died four days later. Fisher suffered a heart attack while on a flight from London to Los Angeles in 2016.

The family’s spokesman Simon Halls issued a statement at the time, “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

Anniversary Of Carrie Fischer’s Death

On the anniversary of her mother’s death, Billie Lourd paid tribute to her late mother on her Instagram.  Lourd posted:

It has been two years since my Momby’s death and I still don’t know what the ‘right” thing to do on a death anniversary is (I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way about your loved ones) So I decided to do something a little vulnerable for me, but something we both loved to do together – sing.

With that, she posted a video in which she paid tribute to her mother. The video showed her playing a rendition of “These Days.”  The song was written by Jackson Brown and appeared on Nico’s 1967 debut album.

Lourd also added:

I hope this encourages anyone feeling a little low or lost to ‘keep on moving.’ As my Momby once said, ‘Take your broken heart and turn it into art’ — whatever that art may be for you.

Tributes Pour In

Mark Hamill who starred with Fisher in Star Wars and was also her close friend, paid tribute to Fisher on Twitter.

“There is no ‘right’ thing to do on a horrible anniversary like this… but I’m finding solace as Billie ‘takes her broken heart & turns it into art’ — as someone we all loved & will never stop missing once said” he stated.

Todd Fisher, Lourd’s uncle, and Fischer’s brother gave his own personal tribute.

“On this day, I do what I do every day, I remember ‘my girls’ and try to help keep their memories alive,” he wrote. “There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of them, we surround ourselves with things that have personal memories connected to them. They frequently visit me in my dreams. They send their love as they always did in my life.”

‘Star Wars’ Fans Paid Tribute to Fischer

Star Wars World @StarWarsWorld10 tweeted “Two years ago today, we lost this legend.  #RIPCarrieFischer”

mikayla @mystryoflove tweeted “It’s been 2 years since we lost Carrie Fisher and I still miss her so much #CarrieOnForever”
Strawberrypilot @matt_fragolino “Princess. General. Rebel.”

“May the Force be with you, always. #CarrieFischer #StarWars” Giles Paley-Phillips @eliistender10

“Stay afraid, but do it anyway. What’s important is the action. You don’t have to wait to be confident. Just do it and eventually, the confidence will follow.” – Carrie Fisher

Lourd’s grandmother Debbie Reynolds who was Fischer’s mother died one day later at age 84 from a stroke. Todd Fischer stated that heartbreak caused Reynolds’ death as she would not want to live without her daughter.

Not only was Fisher known for Star Wars, but she was also known for her writing. One of her most famous books was “Postcards from the Edge,” a semi-autobiographical book which talked about her drug addiction, bipolar disease and relationship with her mother. The book was turned into a hit 1990 Movie.

Lourd followed in her mother’s footsteps and appeared in “Star Wars” as Lieutenant Connix from 2015 to 2019 in the sequel trilogy.

In September 2017, Ellen DeGeneres spoke with Lourd on her show about the deaths of her mother and grandmother. She told her that it was “Surreal and impossible to deal with.”

“There’s no way to really explain it, and it’s so hard to talk about. If I say that I’m doing good, I’m too happy. If I say that I’m not doing good, then I’m a mess.”

Over the last two years, Carrie Fisher Fans have kept her in their heart and according to popular sentiment, they will never forget her.

Milo Etheridge recently lamented that there will never be another Carrie Fisher.
