Actor Sid Haig Dies at 80

Many are mourning the death of horror actor Sid Haig, including Rob Zombie. The director whose films included “House of 1000 Corpses” and “The Devil’s Rejects,” in which Haig played Captain Spaulding, took to Instagram to express his lament.

“Hooray for Captain Spaulding. Gone but not forgotten,” Zombie captioned the image of Haig in character as Captain Spaulding.

Many of Zombie’s 1.7 million Instagram followers wrote their condolences in the comments section of the post.

“Rest in peace.”

Someone else posted, “Rest in Horror, what a legend. I am amazed that he was 80! There’ll be no other. Condolences to his family and friends.”

Another fan wrote, “Love to the Clown, RIP Mr. Haig.”

The horror actor died on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019, after a trip to the hospital and then transferred to intensive care unit after an accident of some sort earlier this month. Susan L. Oberg, his wife, announced on social media Monday morning. Oberg said his death was a “shock to everyone.”

Apparently, his wife keeps track of his Instagram account. On Sept. 6, she was asking for prayers for her husband. The actor’s representative told TMZ his accident occurred in his own home.

Otherwise, the circumstances of the horror actor’s death remain a mystery. However, the outpouring of love from the horror community has been overwhelming.

Haig’s career included several Zombie films, such as his final appearance as Captain Spaulding in “3 From Hell,” Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” and “Kill Bill Vol. 2.” He was also in several blaxploitation films in the 1970s opposite Pam Greer like “Coffy,” “Foxy Brown,” and “Black Mama, White Mama.” Haig also held some television spots, including the leading role as the villain on the CBS series, “Jason of Star Command.”

The horror actor has 149 acting credits to his name, according to TMZ. They last spoke to him in 2017, he was catching TMZ up on his projects, at the time, he had four projects running. The man knows how to stay busy.

Sid Haig was 80 years old.
