Former First Lady Barbara Pierce Bush died on April 17, 2018, she was 92 years old. Her husband, George H.W., was the 41st President of the United States. The announcement of her death came out of the former president’s office.

No information was provided for Mrs. Bush’s cause of death. However, on the 15th a statement was released indicating her choice to refrain from further medical assistance for her illnesses. Reports indicate she had been suffering from congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Mrs. Bush was born in New York on June 8, 1925. She was the mother of six children, one of whom died just before she was four years old. Her oldest son, George W., was the 43rd President of the United States. The former first lady left behind 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Before and after the first lady lived in the White House she was an active voice in American politics and is well known for involvement in literacy programs. It was evident by the way she lived her life that she cared deeply for people. The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, Maine is named for this loving woman.

When the hospital opened in 1995, she excitedly said, “Children need and deserve the very best care possible, and they will find it here…”

Her husband’s notification of Barbara Bush’s death stated the funeral information would be forthcoming.
