Raymond Allen Never Forgotten

Raymond Allen from the famous TV shows “Good Times” and “Sanford and Sons” passed away at the age of ninety-one on Aug. 10, 2020. Veteran actor, who starred in some the most known sitcoms of the 1970s, died from respiratory issues not related to COVID-19 in any way.

Allens’ daughter, Ta Ronce Alle, confirmed that the news on Facebook late on Monday, saying the family suffered a double loss with her cousin’s death on the same day as her father.

“Just wanted to let The Allen Family and friends know that Dad received his wing two hours ago,” Allen, a former child actress, wrote. “His warmth, kind heart, and cleaver sayings will be missed. His laughter will ring in heaven. Rest In Heavenly Peace Raymond Allen. The last of 12 siblings.”

She would also explain that it was a hard day, and she was surrounding herself with loved friends and family. The star’s daughter added her cousin also passed away. Her dad and cousin were both being held by the wings of angels.

Allen had made his acting debut in 1946 with “Fight That Ghost” where he was seen as a Fast Delivery Bill. His break did not come to further down the line when he landed the recurring role of Uncle Woodrow Anderson on “Sanford and Son” in 1974.

In the same year, Allen would appear on “Good Times” in the role of Ned the Wino. The series portrayed the joys and struggles of a poor Black family living in the Chicago housing projects. He joined a strong cast led by Esther Rolle and John Amos and his daughter appeared in the series as Micheal’s girlfriend.

His role was reprised four more times throughout the six seasons “Good Times” was on the air. One of Allen’s biggest appearances coming by way of a portrait of Black Jesus that was inspired by Ned the Wino.
