Pop Smoke Murdered in Home Invasion

Bashar Barakah Jackson, better known as Pop Smoke was found dead in his home early on the morning of February 19, 2020, by the Los Angeles Police Department. According to the LAPD, at least four masked men entered the rapper’s home early Wednesday morning where they would go on to fire multiple shots at Jackson. The rapper did not have his home alarm system active when the invasion took place according to TMZ. Police have not arrested or identified any suspects.

Pop Smoke has been celebrating his recently released mixtape “Meet the Woo 2,” reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 200 albums charts. The mixtape reached the number seven spot on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Prior to having a party at his California home late Tuesday night, Pop Smoke posted an image of a gift bag with his address on it to social media. The Los Angeles Police Department believes the assailants used the social media post to target the rapper.

The LAPD has started an investigation into Jackson’s murder, although the police department has chosen not to declare a motive at this early stage of the investigation.

Captain Jonathan Trippet is optimistic about solving the investigation, the LAPD police captain put out a statement saying “There is a lot of social media information out there. The house is in a neighborhood surrounded by video cameras,” Tippet said. “There is a lot of information available. We have some work to do.”

Pop Smoke’s peers have taken to social media to honor deceased the rapper. Chance The Rapper took to Twitter saying “Rest Up Pop Smoke, you were too young. God Bless and comfort your family. What a crazy trajectory you were on man smh.” Rapper 50 Cent also took to Twitter to honor Jackson by posting “R.I.P to my main man Pop Smoke, No sympathy for winners. God bless him!”

Jackson was just 20 at the time of his death.
