Haley Smith, a former contestant on “American Idol” has died after crashing her motorcycle in Maine, reports TMZ.

The singer passed away early Sunday morning, at 2 a.m. ET, on Sept. 1, 2019, in Millinocket, Maine. According to police, she was in a one-vehicle accident. It seems she failed to make a sharp turn along a residential road that becomes a highway in certain sections. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local police and Maine’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed her death. Officials are still investigating the accident.

Smith was originally from Utah.

Her father, Michael Smith told TMZ that Haley was riding on a country road and her family believes a deer may have caused the crash. He implied that his daughter was a good driver and her family simply doubts she lost control of her bike.

Smith’s time on “American Idol” was brief in 2012. She auditioned in Colorado during Season 11. She did not make it passed the second Hollywood round, but she left an impression on the judges when she auditioned.

She sang “Rufus” and “Tell Me Something Good,” adding a folksy twist that left Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler impressed.

Tyler said it was an honor to hear her sing because her look, sound, and vibe was “out of his era.”

Smith was 26 years old. Her family was preparing to celebrate her upcoming birthday in November.

A representative from “American Idol” said that their thoughts and prayers are with her family.
