Attorney General Jeff Sessions Fired by President Donald Trump

President Donald Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions on November 7, 2018. In a non-traditional manner, the president bypassed Assistant AG Rod Rosenstein as Sessions replacement.

The president shucked the task of firing the now-former-AG to General John Kelly, Trump’s own chief of staff. Instead of naming Assistant AG Rod Rosenstein, the acting AG is Sessions’ Chief of Staff Matthew Whitaker.

“Sessions agreed to resign at Trump’s request, according to a copy of his resignation letter obtained by The Hill.”

Trump clearly stated during a press conference two hours earlier that he was not going to fire anyone during a press conference. He claimed it is natural for people to quit after midterm elections.
